Compliant
by design.

Ulalo operates inside Zambia's financial regulations, not around them. Here's how we stay aligned — and how we keep your business protected.

Our regulatory position

Ulalo is a technology and reconciliation layer. Funds are moved and credit is issued by licensed financial partners — not by Ulalo and not by your business.

Wage access is structured as early access to wages already earned, recovered in a single payroll deduction. It is not a credit product, carries no interest, and never rolls over.

The statutory deduction cap

Zambian law limits how much of an employee's pay may be deducted. Ulalo enforces this ceiling automatically across every lender and advance at once, before payroll runs.

This protects three parties at the same time:

  • Workers — always keep enough take-home pay to live on.
  • Employers — never process a deduction that breaches the limit.
  • Lenders — only lend within affordability.

Licensed partners only

Every lender on the marketplace must be licensed and in good standing with the regulator. We verify licensing at onboarding and monitor it on an ongoing basis.

Funds flow through a licensed financial partner, so there is no capital outlay, balance-sheet impact, or lending liability for the employers we work with.

Anti-money-laundering & KYC

Identity verification, sanctions screening, and transaction monitoring are carried out by our regulated partners in line with Bank of Zambia requirements.

We retain audit trails for every access, deduction, and cap check to support reporting and review.

Responsible lending

Wage access — interest-free and capped — is always presented first. Borrowing is a separate, clearly-named, affordability-checked choice, never a default and never disguised as 'your money'.
